Our culture is in desperate need of gospel-centered churches who are intentionally living out what it means to be a follower of Christ. It is statistically proven that church planting is the most effective way to reach others with the gospel. In a world filled with uncertainty, we hold the hope for the world and must share that hope with others. It has been said that the future of Christianity in the United States of America depends on the success of church planting.
Why Norman? According to the latest statistics, Norman's population is 123,471 and has a high growth rate of 16 percent. In addition, the University of Oklahoma is the largest university in the state with 32,000 students enrolled—creating an even higher population for the city. West Norman has only 1 church for every 3,474 people. The remainder of the city has 1 church for every 1,370 people.
Based off of Norman’s growth of about 1,775 people every year, we would need to plant a mega-church every year in Norman in order to keep up with the current population growth. This number does not include the number of unchurched or de-churched people that need to be reached. This urgent reality is growing at a rate never seen before in America.
